What is The Taleweaver’s Song?
Simply put, it is a new family of fantasy adventure. Emphasis on the adventure. It’s an ongoing series of tales set on the continent of Atair on the world of Merelein. It’s a return to classic sword and sorcery, where over any hill an adventure awaits.
The stories will be, for the most part, stand alone. There will be some connecting threads but these are not long form epics. Each story will be a complete adventure with a beginning, middle and end. Each adds to the overall tapestry that is the Taleweaver’s Song.
In a world of magic and dragons, not every battle is one for the ages, not every quest has the fate of the world riding on it and even though everyone has a destiny it might not be to save the world or save the kingdom.
At the same time as the books are being written, the game setting is being developed. Not just a family of books, the Song will be an old school pen and paper game setting.
The Taleweaver’s Song is intended for most ages, adults and teens.
The above is what I wrote on the publishing site, Barking Fire Publishing, to try to explain what Taleweaver’s Song is all about. It’s a series of books, it’s a pen and paper role playing game; but what it really is a return to my youth when I first started reading and the books that captivated me. It’s a return of the fantasy genre to stories that tell about adventures. It’s about life in a fantasy setting. It’s about exploration of the world, finding what is beyond the next hill.
I’ve been doing a lot of hiking lately and being out in the mountains and the forests, with all that land, the amount of stories to tell is endless. What is happening on the other side of the mountain well I’m climbing this side? Could a tribe of Trow live in that hillside I just passed? What about on the other side of those trees that I can’t see beyond? What is there?
The Taleweaver’s Song is about the random encounters. Setting up your camp for the night and you hear someone riding a horse like a demon is chasing them. They say that their village is in danger. Do you go and help? Continue on your way?
Strange lights are seen in a part of the forest that no one has ever been. Ignore it? Do and explore? What could be there?
That is what The Taleweaver’s Song is about.
The plan is for two books to be released a year, with connected short stories released in between. The next book and first short story have excepts in The Skeleton Stone. You’ve already met Culann Hawkfall and later this year you’ll get to meet Jaken, Kathwen, Osten and Bethel.
I’m looking forward to the adventures and I hope you are too.
